D. Specimen Paper - 13

Question No. 1

(i) You have recently read a story in which the protagonist makes a difficult choice that has an impact on you. Briefly describe the situation and the protagonist’s decision. Would you do the same if you were in the protagonist’s place? Why?

Answer:- I recently read a novel where the protagonist, a young woman named Sarah, was faced with an incredibly difficult decision that left a lasting impact on me. Sarah was a talented artist, but her life was upended when her mother fell ill with a terminal disease. Her mother’s condition worsened, and Sarah was given a choice: accept a prestigious art fellowship in another city that could launch her career, or stay home to care for her mother in her final months.

The story beautifully explored Sarah’s inner conflict. On one hand, the fellowship was a dream opportunity that could secure her future as an artist. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance that many would envy. On the other hand, her mother, who had always been supportive of Sarah’s artistic aspirations, was now in need of her care and presence. Sarah felt torn between her desire for a successful career and her deep love for her mother.

After much reflection, Sarah made the heartbreaking decision to stay home and care for her mother. She declined the fellowship, choosing to devote her time and energy to being there for her family during their final days together. This decision was not easy, and it came with feelings of guilt and sacrifice. However, as the story progressed, it became clear that her choice, though difficult, was one that gave her a sense of peace, knowing that she had been there for her mother when she needed her the most.

This story deeply resonated with me, and I found myself reflecting on the idea of selflessness and sacrifice. If I were in Sarah’s place, I would like to think that I would make the same choice. The love and bond between family members are priceless, and there are moments in life that require us to put our personal goals aside for the well-being of others. While the fellowship could offer a promising future, the emotional weight of losing a loved one without being there would be unbearable.

Of course, this decision would not be easy for anyone, and it would come with personal struggles. But ultimately, the comfort of knowing that you’ve been there for a loved one during their toughest moments can provide a sense of fulfillment that a career, no matter how successful, cannot replace. The protagonist’s choice reminded me that sometimes, our relationships and the people we love are the things that matter most in the end.

(II) You and your classmates had organised a farewell party for the students of Class XI. Give an account of the party and the thoughts you had while you were parting from your seniors.

Answer:- The farewell party we organized for the students of Class XI was an event filled with emotions, laughter, and a sense of nostalgia. It took place in the school hall, which had been beautifully decorated with colorful balloons, streamers, and flowers. The atmosphere was vibrant yet sentimental, as we were about to bid farewell to the seniors who had been an integral part of our school life for so long.

As the seniors entered the hall, we greeted each one of them with a rose, symbolizing our respect and appreciation for them. The mood was cheerful, but beneath it was an undercurrent of sadness, as we all knew that this would be the last time we would be together as a whole group in the school. The monitor of Class Xl started the event with a warm and heartfelt welcome speech, expressing gratitude for all the memories and experiences shared throughout the years.

The entertainment program that followed was full of laughter and enjoyment. There were performances by some of the seniors, who showcased their talents in singing, dancing, and acting. The Class X students also presented a skit that left everyone in splits, and it was clear that we had worked hard to make this farewell special. Everyone, including the teachers, joined in the fun, creating a sense of unity and camaraderie.

As the evening continued, we presented farewell gifts to each of our seniors, carefully chosen to remind them of their time in school. The seniors, in turn, shared their memories of the school and the friendships they had formed over the years. Some spoke about their favorite teachers, while others reminisced about the fun moments they had during school events. It was touching to see how deeply attached they were to the school, and how much they would miss the place and the people.

The highlight of the evening was a speech by our Principal. With great warmth and wisdom, the Principal wished all the seniors a bright and successful future. It was a moment filled with pride, and we all felt a sense of loss as we realized that these seniors, who had been role models for us, were now moving on to new chapters in their lives.

As I stood there, listening to their speeches and sharing in the joy of the event, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions. It was hard to say goodbye to people who had been part of our daily lives for so long. However, I also felt a sense of hope and excitement for their futures. The farewell party had been a memorable event, one that I would cherish for a long time, as it marked the end of one journey and the beginning of another for our seniors.

(III) The more the merrier-large families are the best. Give your views either FOR or AGAINST the given statement.

Answer :- For the view

A family is the foundation of love, support, and togetherness. While modern lifestyles may favour smaller families for reasons of convenience and financial ease, large families have their own unmatched charm and advantages. The saying β€œthe more the merrier” perfectly applies to large families, where life is filled with joy, laughter, and companionship.

πŸ”’ Get Full Book Answers –Β ViewΒ

Critics may argue that large families face financial strain or lack privacy, but with good planning and mutual understanding, these problems can be managed. In fact, large families often teach the value of simple living and make children more grateful for what they have.

Against the view:

While the saying “the more the merrier” may apply to parties or celebrations, it is not always practical when it comes to family size. The idea that large families are the best is not always true, especially in today’s fast-paced and demanding world. In fact, having a small or moderate-sized family has more advantages in terms of financial stability, individual attention, education, and overall well-being.

πŸ”’ Get Full Book Answers –Β ViewΒ

In conclusion, while having many siblings might sound joyful and exciting, the practical problems of managing a large family outweigh the benefits. It is not just about numbers; it is about quality of life, attention, and care. Therefore, the idea that large families are the best is not suitable in today’s world. A smaller family is often happier, healthier, and better equipped to handle modern challenges.

(IV) Attitudes.

Answer :- Attitudes are the way we think, feel, and behave towards people, situations, and ideas. They shape how we view the world and how we interact with those around us. Our attitudes can either open doors to opportunities and positive experiences or close them, depending on how we approach life. The significance of attitudes cannot be overstated because they influence our relationships, personal growth, and overall well-being.

A positive attitude is one of the most powerful tools a person can have. It allows individuals to approach challenges with optimism and resilience. People with positive attitudes tend to see setbacks as temporary obstacles, and they are more likely to persevere through difficulties. This outlook can be contagious, inspiring others to adopt a similar mindset. In the workplace, for instance, employees who maintain a positive attitude can foster a collaborative and productive environment, while negativity can lead to tension and conflict.

Conversely, a negative attitude can be harmful to both the individual and those around them. People with negative attitudes often dwell on problems rather than solutions, which can lead to feelings of helplessness and frustration. They may feel stuck in their circumstances and see change as impossible, which can limit personal and professional growth. Moreover, negative attitudes can strain relationships, as they often lead to unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings. People may avoid interacting with someone who constantly complains or criticizes, which can result in isolation.

Attitudes can also be shaped by our beliefs, experiences, and environment. For example, a person who grows up in a supportive and nurturing environment may develop a more positive outlook on life, while someone who faces constant adversity may develop a more cautious or negative attitude as a defense mechanism. However, it is important to recognize that attitudes are not fixed; they can change over time with self-awareness and effort. People can work to shift their mindset by challenging negative thoughts, seeking out new experiences, and surrounding themselves with positive influences.

The role of attitudes extends beyond personal growth. They play a crucial part in social interactions and can influence the dynamics of a group or community. A person’s attitude towards others can either build bridges or create barriers. Respect, empathy, and open-mindedness can lead to healthier and more harmonious relationships, while prejudice, intolerance, and judgment can divide people and cause harm.

In conclusion, attitudes are a powerful force that shapes our experiences and interactions with the world. Cultivating a positive and open-minded attitude can enhance our lives, promote personal growth, and foster meaningful connections with others. Conversely, negative attitudes can hinder progress and harm relationships, making it essential to evaluate and adjust our outlook on life. Ultimately, it is our attitudes that shape the path we take in life.

Question No. 2

(i) Every night some boys have been roaming in your colony on their motorcycles. They disturb the residents of the area and appear to have dubious intentions. Write an article for a local newspaper entitled: Bikers’ Menace.

Answer :-
Bikers’ Menace
By: Radhika Sen, Resident of Shantivihar Colony
Date: 7th May 2025 | Location: New Delhi

The peaceful Shantivihar Colony, once known for its quiet lanes and secure environment, is now under constant disturbance due to a group of reckless boys who have been creating a nuisance every night on their motorcycles. This group of 6 to 8 young men, aged between 18 to 25, have become a serious menace to the residents, particularly the elderly and children.

These boys, tall and heavily built, are often seen wearing black jackets and helmets with dark visors, making their identity difficult to confirm. They start arriving around 10 p.m. and continue their activities until past midnight. Their motorcycles, mostly modified and without silencers, roar through the colony lanes with unbearable noise. What adds to the terror is that many of these bikes have illegible or tampered registration plates.

The activities include performing dangerous stunts, loud shouting, and sometimes engaging in speed races across the narrow streets. Several residents have reported that the noise causes disturbed sleep and stress, especially among senior citizens and patients. Some parents have even stopped allowing their children to step out in the evening out of fear.

Apart from noise and danger, the presence of these bikers raises concerns about potential criminal activity. Many residents fear that their suspicious movements and tendency to hide their identities might be linked to more serious intentions.

Despite repeated complaints to the local authorities, no concrete action has been taken so far. The residents of Shantivihar Colony urge the police to step in and take strict action against this growing nuisance before any unfortunate incident takes place. The safety, peace, and well-being of the citizens must be restored without delay.
